Morning Edition
Morning Edition was a collaborative drawing and print project happening within the timeframe of the exhibition Starting Lines at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art over the course of 2026. Each week a print was added to a group display at the end of a drawing workshop.
Inspired by aspects of Julia Cameron's Morning Pages writing tool from her book The Artist's Way (1992), these relaxed sessions encouraged people to fill a sheet with ten small drawings in response to a number of short prompts. Happening early on Baltic’s first open day of the week – the hope is that the activity builds confidence, mindfulness and unexpected creative ideas.
At the end of each Morning Edition workshop, the group created one final drawing which was compiled into a collective print – building an archive of variations of the same thing, reminding us that drawing is a way of celebrating different views of the world.
Prompts included: Draw the feeling of the sun, Draw your favourite animal eating an icecream, Draw your home in the future or the past, Draw a stained glass window design, Draw something so mundane it’s possibly not worth drawing, Draw something with feathers, Draw the ingredients of a favourite recipe.
