Brief Opportunities

Brief Opportunity was a project devised and designed by Foundation Press in partnership with Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, sharing creative worksheets made especially for grownups. Beginning in January and concluding in December the project encouraged people to work creatively for one calendar year.

The briefs featured topics as diverse as personalised tracksuit design, what to do with a leap year day, mosaics, the colours of spring, your least favourite domestic chores, how to draw the sun, what a monster looks like, the colour blue, unusual foods, artist manifestos, perspectival drawing and a doodle-based review of the year.

The printed worksheets were supported by monthly 'Riso Socials' where people could take advantage of support and free risograph printing to develop their responses to the briefs. As of Spring 2025 – these free sessions continue on the first Friday of the month at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, 3-5pm.

Brief Opportunity was originally supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
